Bedfordshire's Leading Chamber Orchestra

Symphonia Academica is Bedfordshire's professional orchestra, resident at the University of Bedfordshire, having previously been resident at the University of Luton since 1999. The orchestra comprises some of the country's finest musicians who perform with many leading orchestras.
The orchestra performs repertoire ranging from the Baroque to the present day. We have commissioned works from contemporary composers and are proud to have Richard Sisson as our composer-in-association. We have played throughout England, given a series of concerts in France and performed before the Queen.
Education is a key part of the orchestra's activities. Our members have given master-classes for younger musicians and we frequently invite talented young performers to play in our concerts.

We regularly visit local schools to lead Education Workshops, usually leading to the students performing their work alongside us in a professional concert.
We see our concerts as a way of giving an insight into music, through a more conversational presentation, encouraging our audience to enter into each composer's musical world.
Symphonia Academica's principal conductor is David Beaman. Since David graduated from the Royal College of Music as a violinist, pianist and conductor he has become one of the most sought after andexciting conductors of the younger generation.
The artistic director for the orchestra is Peter Bussereau. Peter turned to a career in music after graduating in mathematics. He has a busy life not only directing the Symphonia Academica but also performing as a violin soloist in concertos and recitals, in chamber music and performing with some of the country's leading orchestras.
